MP4 to MP3 converter
Drop an MP4 and get an MP3 back. The conversion runs in this tab on your own machine, so the recording you are working with never leaves your device.
The video track is dropped; only the sound is kept. 192 kbps is a good default — 320 kbps for music, 128 kbps for a smaller file.

How to convert MP4 to MP3
Add the MP4
Drop the file on the box above, paste it from the clipboard or pick it from your disk. Several MP4s at once are fine.
Pick the bitrate
192 kbps suits speech and most video sound; choose 320 kbps for music or 128 kbps when the MP3 has to be small.
Download the MP3
The audio appears with its new size and can be played right in the page. Download it, then convert the next file if you have one.
What changes when MP4 becomes MP3
An MP4 is a container: a video track and an audio track, usually AAC inside. Converting to MP3 keeps the sound and throws the pictures away, re-encoding the samples into the format every player, phone and car stereo understands.
The re-encode costs a little quality, which is why the bitrate is yours to pick — 320 kbps is transparent for almost everything. There is no upload step anywhere: the browser decodes the MP4 from your disk, encodes the MP3 in memory and hands you the download.
MP4 to MP3 questions
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion uses the decoders and encoders built into your browser, so the file is read from your disk and the MP3 is written back to it. There is no server step, which also means the tool works offline once the page has loaded.
How long does the conversion take?
For a typical song or video, seconds: the browser decodes faster than real time even on a phone. A very large file takes longer, and the progress bar tracks it.
Does converting to MP3 reduce the sound quality?
A little — MP3 is a lossy format. At 320 kbps the difference is inaudible for nearly all listeners; at 128 kbps you may hear it on music with cymbals or heavy detail.
Can the MP4 be larger than the size limit?
The limit is 1 GB per file. A bigger video usually means a longer recording than a phone tab can hold in memory, so cut it down first.
