Only the sound is kept — the video track is dropped. MP3 at 192 kbps suits most recordings; raise it to 320 for music.

How to extract audio from a video

1

Add the video

Drop an MP4, MOV, WEBM or MKV file on the box above, or several at once — a batch runs one file after another.

2

Pick the format

MP3 plays everywhere, M4A copies the audio stream untouched when the video already carries AAC, and WAV is uncompressed.

3

Download the audio

The result appears with its size and plays right there. Download it, or convert the next video without reloading the page.

Where the sound comes from

The browser reads the video's audio track with the same decoder it uses for playback, then re-encodes it into the format you picked. Nothing is uploaded, and this is not a recording of your speakers: the samples are taken from the file itself, so the result is as clean as the source.

An MP3 is re-encoded, which costs a little quality — pick 320 kbps when the sound matters. M4A is different: when the video already carries AAC audio (MP4 and most MOV files do), the track is copied into the new file without re-encoding, so nothing is lost and the job finishes in seconds.

Video to MP3 questions

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. The video is read and converted in this tab by your own browser; there is no server step, which also means the tool works offline once the page has loaded.

Which bitrate should I choose?

192 kbps is the default and is transparent for speech, podcasts and most video sound. Choose 320 kbps for music, or 128 kbps when the file has to be small.

What happens to the video track?

It is discarded — the result contains only audio. The original file stays exactly as it was on your disk.

Does this work with MKV and WEBM videos?

Yes, as long as your browser can decode the audio codec inside (AAC, Opus, Vorbis and MP3 all work in recent browsers). The container itself does not matter.

How large can the video be?

Up to 1 GB per file. Past that a phone tab usually runs out of memory before the converter does, so trim the video first.
